According to Buddhists’ Treasury of Metaphysics (Abhidharma-kosa), abortion is wrong even in the first week of pregnancy because embryo is a human being who has been reincarnated at the time of conception (Goodman). In contrast, some Buddhists consider the start of reincarnation, based on scientific researches, as the time when consciousness begins, which is at least on the twentieth week of pregnancy (qtd. McMahan, 267 by Goodman). So abortion equals murder when reincarnation had happened, despite the counterarguments. This ideology of course changes people’s life and their ethical judgements.
