The Ethical Issues Surrounding Abortion The abortion debate is one that has baffled the world for centuries, and in the process has made this debate more complex and controversial. The abortion debate handles the ‘rights’ and ‘wrongs’ associated with the deliberate termination of pregnancy, which ultimately destroys the fetus.[1] Around the world, abortion has become a very sore topic, with many men and women finding themselves in a moral dilemma with regards to pregnancy termination.[2] This polarising topic has either supporters or opposers, with very few that remain undecided. There are two main questions that are often raised in this moral debate.…

The topic of abortion has always been a controversial issue. There are, and will always be, many different views concerning the ethical acceptability, social stigma, and morality of abortion. While there had already been attempts to properly emphasize women’s civil rights in society, it wasn’t until the emergence of a case like Roe v. Wade that brought to the public eye the legal issue of a woman’s right to receive an abortion, as well as her rights as a person and citizen. Even though this case was based more on the legality and right to privacy and personal freedoms, the legal issues surrounding a woman’s right to abortion was the true start of the women’s liberation movement. The Supreme Court’s decision of Roe v. Wade to legalize abortion…

By definition, abortion is “any abnormal end to growth or development, as of an embryo or organ” (Dictionary). Many people are against this because it can be considered murder, because you are ending the life of someone else. Republicans oppose abortion funding. They promote adoption and abstinence, not abortion clinic referrals. They want a Human Life Amendment added to the Constitution and they want this amendment to ban abortion altogether.…

Her pro-choice stance has been a major focus in her campaign. When asked about federal limits on abortion she said, “This is one of those really painful questions that people raise and obviously it's really emotional, I think that the kind of late term abortions that take place are because of medical necessity”(Newby). She does not want any limitation on abortion, even very late term. She also wants Planned Parenthood to remain in full swing. Clinton has acknowledged that she has seen the videos coming out recently of Planned Parenthood executives discussing organ harvesting from aborted fetuses and in “her response to this she says they were misleadingly edited and intentionally taken out of context” (Newby).…

Democrats regard religion as scientific and non-organized, while Republicans are largely influenced by religion and tradition. For example, Republicans’ stance on abortion is based on religion and their belief that an unborn child has the right to live and cannot be taken away. Democrats support abortion and believe a woman has the right to make her own decisions. Another social difference is based on family upbringing. Liberals focus on a relationship built on respect and trust between a child and his parents to create potential of a fulfilled adult, whereas conservatives believe a relationship built on respect and fear will build character and a self-reliant adult.…

Republicans support the pro-life stance and democrats support the pro-choice stance, and it is these beliefs of each party that influence the legislation of abortion. Not only have party platforms changed in stance, beliefs, and ideology, but also in importance to politics and the political process. In an editorial in The Atlantic’s Politics & Policy Daily, Daniel Disalvo and James W. Ceaser explained how the importance of party platforms has changed throughout American politics. They quote political scientist, Sandy Maisel, to point out that “platforms drafted after the 1972 presidential nomination reforms were basically “candidate platforms.” Today, candidates, politicians, and citizens do not pay attention to the platforms because they have become predictable.…

The gallup analysis shows that Republicans are more anti-abortion than do Democrats. The reason for this is that 51% of the Republicans polled for the Gallup study acknowledged their weekly or near weekly attendance at religious services. At the other end of the spectrum are non- church going Democrats of which only 8% believe abortion should be illegal in all circumstances. The poll also said that 37% of Democrats polled are weekly or near weekly church-goers. If, however, there are religious people from either the Democrat or Republican party, both are similarly anti-abortion.…

but if so we should keep abortion safe, legal and rare. For me it is difficult to fully choose sides, so I do not want to say I agree and I do not want to say I disagree but abortions are wrong in any and every way, I do not feel abortions are acceptable. Maybe it’s just me, but I cannot take the life of a child that I clearly created. However, I know some babies can be formed by accident, where if its rape or a “slip up”, but taking the life of someone just isn’t right so I am all against abortions. Such bills and amendments would include, the Hyde Amendment, which blocks federal funding for Medicaid to cover a woman’s abortion with the exception of rape, incest, or medical complications (Planned Parenthood). Then there are others, such as the 20-week ban, which is the maximum number of weeks that a woman can be pregnant after the act of conception (Planned Parenthood). This also falls under what the views are for those that are in governmental power. For example, those that are in a democratic view point tend to be more pro-choice on the issue of abortion, siding with a forty-seven percent that these bans and limitations are wrong, but providing alternative solutions to aid women in having safe and legal abortions (NAF). I chose abortion rights as my topic because it is a relevant issue today that affects girls including those of my age. Our current president is against abortion and has made this clear by already banning abortions past 20 weeks of pregnancy. This is just the first step on his path to eventually banning all abortions. I think this is unfair. It is unfair that others dictate the future of those women carrying the child in their own womb not knowing their situation.…
