Throughout The Crucible, it is evident that Abigail Williams is a very lustful being. At one point, John Proctor and Abigail had an affair, but after it was over Proctor lost feelings and moved on. For Abigail it was a different story & she grew lustful over Proctor. Everything she could do to attract John Proctor she did while trying to convince Proctor that he loved Abigail too. William's tries to have Proctor pity her by saying "I know you John. I know you. I cannot sleep for dreamin'; I cannot dream but I wake and walk about the house as though I'd find you comin' through some door" (24). Abigail is trying to tell Proctor that she wakes at night looking for him after she has spent her time sleeping, dreaming of only him. She previously had stated that behind the barn he had held her tight but then questioned if it had also been a dream. Proctor told her that it was a "wild thing to say" (23) because he hadn't stepped off his farm that month. Before Elizabeth Proctor, John Proctor's wife, goes on trial, John goes to Abigail to warn her and give her time to plan out what to say so she doesn't get herself in deeper trouble. Abigail, while still believing that John is in love with her says "Oh John, I will make you such a wife when the world is white again! You will be amazed to see me everyday, a light of heaven in your house" (156). Williams is referring to the witchcraft leaving Salem when she talks of the world being white again. She believes that witchcraft is being practiced in their town but when the witchery is over, she will wed John Proctor because Elizabeth will be proven a witch
