The children that Abeleine has been looking after and upbringing have been taught that it doesn’t matter what colour skin a person is, it is the personality that counts. Abeleine has been teaching this act of kindness to Mae, she also taught her that love, care and kindness is what makes up a good personality. Throughout the novel Abeleine starts thinking that when you overcome the fear of your enemy by facing them is a victory because you have overcome what will happen when there is a step taken by myself against them. Abeleine is known as a maid of the whites in the society but people are unaware that she is in a writing project with Skeeter.
