The Book Thief by Markus Zusak is narrated by Death in 1938. Liesel Meminger moves away to the home of her new foster parents, Hans and Rosa Hubermann. The kind and friendly house painter, Hans finds out that Liesel does not know how to read or write. Liesel was not so fond of Hans until she rolled cigarettes with him, there was no exact reason why she liked this hobby so much, she probably liked to help her Papa. The main character Liesel Meminger was good hearted, well rounded. Liesel’s foster mom was easier to relate to because the mom truly loved everyone in her family but just did not show her true emotions on the outside. She reminds me of me because I am the trouble maker in my family and it may look like I don’t love my family but I really do.
This book is extremely boring in the beginning because the only thing in the beginning is the introductions to our characters, but towards the middle and end the characters start to form their personalities such as love, caring, and slyness. Liesel was shy and quiet in the beginning but towards the end she became more of a daredevil and risk taker. The end got exciting because all of the puzzle pieces started to come into place and finally make that Ah Ha moment. One issue I had with the book was the language because a lot of the time when the characters speak they speak Russian. In this book there was a lot of use of strong language and Russian swear words. The Book Thief should be rated for others that are 12+. This book to me is four stars because there are a lot of things going on and a little hard to comprehend, also everybody in the book develops a love for one another. Overall this book is really good, all characters find what their true emotions for each
