The writer in the story "Discovering Yourself with Myers-Briggs" instantly caught my attention in the first paragraph leaving a questionnaire for you to answer. In my opinion the author motivates the reader's diligence to discover what these questions mean. Wendy goes into great detail in discussing the methods of determining one's personality through Myers-Briggs Type Indicator test categorized in three dimensions: extroversion versus introversion, sensation versus intuition, and thinking versus feeling. She also gives a lot of factual information and breaks down what each dimension means for that particular personality. Storytelling is a way to communicate to society in a way that creates a relatable instance such that the reader can see themselves, or a version of themselves, within the story. Storytelling also is a way to demonstrate the struggles of other individuals within a society that a reader my not experience directly, but can nonetheless gain a broader understanding of different struggles within society. Although there are many ways to utilize storytelling techniques, I will apply the approach of Rites of Passage to three of the novels we’ve read this semester. The Rites of Passage that I will be analyzing are those within the stories, Houseboy, Woman at Point Zero, and A Walk in the Night. The two movies Into the Wild and Walkabout depict two stories of people that embark on treacherous journeys that both occur for opposite reasons. Into the Wild portrays the real life story of Chris McCandless, a young man who is on a journey to get away from society. Walkabout shows the fiction story of a girl and her younger brother trying to get back to society to escape solitude from the Australian outback. These characters from these stories display positive and negative emotions towards society. However, in the end, both McCandless and the girl show that their surroundings and society as a whole has deeply affected them.…
The film for this week was “The General”. The main protagonist in this movie is Johnnie Gray (Buster Keaton). In short, the film display an engineer, Johnnie, who has an internal conflict with his girlfriend, Annabelle, and at same time gets his train stolen by Union spies where he tries to retrieve it and succeed. To add with it, his girlfriend accidentally gets involved it as a prisoner of war. In the end, he saves his beloved train named “the General”, his lover, and is promoted to a lieutenant- even though he had no military experience.…
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator is a great tool used to discover your personality and to help you discover what will help you do your job better. However, according to Pittenger, David J from the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga, TN, US the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator is not flawless in detecting your personality it will often get it wrong. However, the way Pittenger tries to back up his flawed opinion by using confusing hypothesis, vocabulary, ideas and lacks longer counter sentences from others to argue against his opinion and uses longer sentences to back up his own opinion. This stops him from showing his opinion about the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator being flawed.
