I’ll be able to help them without putting pressure on them. I have learned to follow the pattern of my clients and go along with their rhythmed. For example, if a client is not ready to tell me all about the horrific details that happened to her during an attack, then I will have to learn to wait on her. In addition, in waiting for her to be ready, I have to also find ways to encourage and let her know that I’m here for her, and how important it is to talk about her incident. Another way, the experience in this course helped me is by making me more aware of the small details that are involved in a case. When we were put in groups to go over case that have been in the news, I learned to recognize the signs of what might have contributed to a perpetrator harming their partner or child. I learned to recognize the behavioral and psychological signs of someone who is been physically, and sexually abuse. Some of those physically signs for someone been physical abused at home is bruises, rope marks, and cuts on the skin. Behavioral sign of a child been sexually abuse is sleep disturbance, refusal to be left alone, and impulsivity behavior. Even after many research, there is not a one definition that people are able to use when defining what is family violence. I will have to be careful in which definition I expressed with my clients. I do not want to exclude any type of family violence, including sibling abuse but I don’t want to add abuse that are most likely not going to do any harm to another person. Another issue that I am concerned about is how to make sure my clients know when they are been taking advantages of, especially the elderly. The elderly needs to understand the signs of when they been neglect, or when someone is financially exploiting
