An analysis of educational leadership reveals one of the many challenges facing a principal is the development of the school’s value system. The rituals of the school often demonstrate to the students, staff and community what the school values as important. The principal is often the leader of these rituals and they reaffirm the values of the school through what they attend to (Deal & Peterson, 1994, p. 30). Thus, the principal becomes a symbol of what to value and believe in.…

In 1968, the Marching Tar Heels of the University of North Carolina (UNC) released a 7-inch 33 ½ rpm record consisting of eight school songs including “Here Comes Carolina,” “Carolina Fight Song,” and UNC’s alma mater “Hark the Sound.” Past UNC students wrote and composed over half of the fight songs featured on the album, and the student marching band performs the same songs today, nearly five decades later. In fact, the band and fans conclude each game with “Hark the Sound,” linking arms and singing the lyrics a UNC student wrote over 100 years ago in 1897. As the “Go Tar Heels!” exhibit exemplifies with this piece, a game is about more than the athletes.…

On February 11 at 10:30am, I attended Aggieland Saturday, an open house for prospective students, and observed the Aggie band play. The band played a total of 4 songs and the last song being the Aggie War Hymn. Unfortunately, the performance didn’t contain the entire aggie band as I expected, but rather members from all the necessary subgroups were present. The key instruments were aerophones, membranophones, and idiophone. The major aerophones consisted of: clarinets, piccolos, trumpets, trombones, and tubas; the membranophones were the drums and snares, which demonstrated indeterminate pitch.…

Upon starting my volunteering, however, I began to feel comfortable working with the patients and they felt comfortable with me. We broke the ice by standing in a circle and throwing a ball to each other. After a break, we gathered around a television and picked a movie to watch. It was incredibly difficult trying to pick one that wasn’t too intense for the patients, but we settled on a movie from the 1940s. The next day, I helped serve coffee and graham crackers to patients.…

Before I went to the World Series, I thought it was a joke, but I guess not because on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Progressive Field in Cleveland, OH was where the World Series was. I was more ecstatic than ever going to the World Series. When we got there, we had to choose our seats because it was standing room only(SRO). We chose our seats in foul ball territory, just about 15 feet away from the foul pole in left field. The game started and a country band named “Locash” sang the “Star Spangled Banner”, even fireworks shot up into the air making a crackling sound.…

Past and present Army leaders have worked diligently to form and maintain an Army image of disciplined, well trained, and true professional soldiers. Over the past 15 years, this outstanding image of Army Soldiers has dwindled to an image of soft, undisciplined, and lazy soldiers who care more about themselves and less about what it means to wear the uniform.
