Case Study: Sherry Bailey

Sherry Bailey, currently managing four different projects participated in an interview with students at Cary High School, where she addressed in detail questions about her current job, job success, challenges, and stakeholders. This interview allowed the students to look into the office of a Project Manager and how one accomplishes them while keeping all parties and team members jubilant.

A project manager’s job revolves around planning, overseeing, documenting, communicating and coordinating both human and natural resources required for the project. Sherry Bailey works at North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC, funded through four different initiatives: The Department of Energy, Nuclear, Engineering, and The Dean’s Office.

One must be sure of all resources required. Thus, making the project manager “backbone” of any project.

“Another essential skill is to be proficient in Microsoft Office” (Workable). Excel Spreadsheets to keep track of input. Organizing into different folders, whether on desktop or real life, not only helps keep one on the same page and easier locating of required documents, but also major key to success in the field of a project management. Ms. Bailey remarked, her desk space is very organized and can easily locate everything, which proves to be very helpful in a job as busy and stressful as hers.

Furthermore, a marvelous project manager should “be able to get the point across the room” (Workable). As crucial as it sounds to have the associated bodies implicated and interested in the final product, one needs to sure the audience comprehends. Ms. Bailey added, “I did not intend on being in the project management field,” adding that she started as a high school history teacher, which indeed required her to stay organized but also helped her construct her speech according to the

Bailey, the interviewers experienced being in her chair. Communication and organization are the backbone of accomplishing any successful project. “A greater share of the communication is done via the email. I mostly use email to get the message out to the team. After every conference call, I promptly send out emails letting the team know about the important issues and points discussed so that everyone is on the same page”(Bailey).
