    (3) The Federalist Papers were written by three of our founding fathers' named John Adams, Alexander Hamilton, and James Jay. They are a collection of 85 newspaper articles which were written in a period between 1787 and 1788 to promote the constitution of the United States. Adams, Hamilton, and Jay were trying to alleviate the fears of anti-federalists by arguing the need for the states to give the federal government more power and to replace the Articles of the Confederation with the Constitution that was being discussed at the same time at the Philadelphia Convention. Some of the articles were written with the purpose of showing why the Constitution was needed, and others were written as counter arguments to opponents of the Constitution. The articles made it clear that the states would have their rights protected under the new Constitution rather than weaken them, all the while giving the government the ability to deal with federal debt and to make decisions on foreign policy.…

The word “genre” has a prototypical definition of “category”, one needs to analyze the definition on a deeper level to understand that “genre” means more than just “category”. It is to an extent a “[tool] to help people to get things done”, as described in the article “Navigating Genres” by Kerry Dirk. The literal definition of genre is a category of artistic compositions, in literature, characterized by similarities in form, content or context, but what makes one genre unique from another is its writing elements such as rhetorical devices, targeted…

For my category four, I created a argumentative essay on the misuse of prescription drugs. I give examples in each paragraph and summed everything up. At first I wanted to have an essay talk about three bad effects of prescription drugs. Then I would break each paragraph down and make a category about each of the individual projects. Yet, I did have that goal in the end, but changed it a little bit.…

When anyone picks up a pencil and starts writing they have a particular audience in mind. For instance, if you are writing a letter to your best friend you are going to write the letter keeping that particular person in mind. On the other hand, if you were writing the same letter to your mom it would be written differently because your attitude has changed due to the change in your target audience. Being able to reach that target audience can be tough because you have to relate information to them in a way where they agree with your points. A writer named Julie Zhuo wrote an article for the New York Times called “Where Anonymity Breeds Contempt”.…

Hate can lead to many problems. Maya Angelou once said, “Hate, it has caused a lot of problems in the world, but has not solved one yet.” There are many kinds of hate, but, to put it simply, hatred is learned. Hate, in general, can lead to oppression, violence, and other kinds of conflict, and can be clearly seen within our society. So, recently I read Deborah Tannen's 1994 essay "The Triumph of the Yell", in which she laments the deterioration of modern-day debate due to its over-combative nature. She argues that framing debates as a fight between opposing extremes obstructs the truth rather than bringing it to light. While I was reading it, I couldn't help but think of the anime fan community (as well as the gaming community, and the sad state of U.S. politics) and the "debates" that take place within it. Far too often, they turn into unintelligible battles of ad hominem attacks and self-serving logic, rather than anything of real substance. Much of this boils down to the idea that anyone who doesn't agree with you is either a "fanboy" or "elitist".…

The Final Chapter In order to make a well written and interesting paper, you must first look at and take in all the aspects of good writing and apply them. For starters, the author must be well versed in all his vocabulary, his point well stated, and his paper flowing and impactful. One must know their audience and entertain them whilst also having a well thought out argument that can be ridiculed and still stand on its own. Written pieces must hold a few quintessential values as well, such as; good writing form, well written and clear cut arguments, a flow of words through the paper, and a small amount of catering to their general audience.…
