The ketogenic diet is a low-carbohydrate, adequate protein, high-fat diet that is designed to change your metabolism, help you maintain a healthy weight, and greatly improve your health.

Since glucose is the easiest molecule for your body to convert and use as energy, it is used as your body's primary source of energy. However, when you greatly lower your intake of carbohydrates and significantly increase your intake of fat, your body is put into a state known as 'ketosis'.

Ketosis is the process your body initiates to help you survive when food intake is low. This has helped the human species to survive during times when food was not readily abundant.
