Question 1 The Title VII of the Civil Rights Act (1964) has declared that all employers with a population of at least 15 employees and whose “business conduct” affects commerce, must maintain a workplace that is free from discrimination. The act outlaws all forms of discrimination which includes discrimination based on sex, race, color, religion or country of origin. In response, organizations have strived to reduce racial discrimination, of which age discrimination is a subtype (Hirsh & Kornrich, 2008).…

Furthermore, if the organization does not give the applicant the job, it created unemployment for these individuals. The 51-year-old Uber driver did not get hired not because he did not have any knowledge of the position, but because he was old. The thought that these organizations need to also keep in mind is that these people who were not hired for the job because of their age might be the breadwinners for their family. The organization is leaving them to beg for money. Another article that solidifies the reason why public administrator should eliminate bias is, “Shown the Door, Older Workers Find Bias hard to prove.”…

Clarence, I agree with you completely that older generations follow the motto “a hard day’s work for an honest day’s pay”. I work with a few older employees and they work 5x harder than some of the younger employees I work with. I also received a 35 on my EI test which I was not surprised of either. I have a very high work ethic and have very little time for play in my job. I do need to learn to put myself in others shoes; sometimes this is very hard for me to do.…

We are experiencing an interesting period in time. We actually have about 4 different generations currently in our work force. Each of these groups were raised in different households with different standards and different ethics. While each group (your veterans, baby boomers, generation x’s and millennials) have a lot of the same attributes in the workplace, you have many different characteristics that define each generation as their own. While there are lists and lists of differences, I believe that you can dumb them down to a few categories.…

It is believed that this is ageism because it is a preconceived opinion that society places on older adults without a reason or actual experience. I chose this image of a younger woman who is hired and an older woman who is not hired because it shows discriminatory statement for older adults. This statement indicated that younger adults are more qualified than older adults because of their age. It is believed that this is ageism because it is unjust…

Some people are given advantages because they are younger, peppier, and better looking. If two people are battling for a spot a sales person both with the same resume and experience with only one difference, their age, there is often a outlook many people expect. The younger person will probably get the job. Even in cases where a older person is better for the job, and the younger has no experience what so ever, the young person will likely get the job. This is discrimination because it is unfair to the older person.…

One of those negative could be the typical negative stereotype related to older workers, that they are not as productive and flexible as younger workers. we can deal with this challenge by offer continuing training and learning opportunities to all employees regardless of age. Those people could have a social identity since all of them are the same gender. Adams (2001) found similar results. Importantly, although their test is weak, their research also suggests that the prohibition of mandatory retirement had no discernible effect. Similar finding come from earlier studies by Burkhauser & Quinn (1983) and Fields & Mitchell (1994). Adams (2001) also finds little evidence of effects of age discrimination laws on the relative probability that an older worker is a new hire and a reduced probability for 65-70-year-olds. Overall, the findings suggest that age discrimination laws boost the retention of older workers.…

Growing up in an upper-middle class, prominently white town of about six thousand people, I haven’t been exposed to much diversity. Although I live ten miles outside of one of the biggest and most diverse cities in Minnesota, I graduated with about 125 kids - maybe two percent of which being mixed or a person of color. Both of my parents grew up in large, diverse cities and have lived around the country, including Arizona and California, along with a lot of travel. They always told my brother and I that we are in for a culture shock when we move away and go to college. I wouldn’t consider myself racist, I think it would be better to describe myself as uneducated when it comes to diversity and simply inexperienced.…

Age Discrimination Whether they seem too old or too young, people will be stereotyped by their age and this leads to discrimination in the work place. Employers tend to categorize older job applicants as slow, fragile and unable to learn new tricks, while the view younger people as irresponsible, inexperienced and not devoted. Being denied an employment opportunity because of an inaccurate, biased opinion is simply unfair and age discrimination in employment can cause more problems than one might realize. Deciding whether or not to hire someone based upon their age and correlating stereotypes is morally wrong and will not find employers devoted, hardworking employees.…
