My father never really helped out my mom and he even went to jail for a day in Peru for it. One day, my mom was offered a job here in the United States so she left me with my father. She never got to graduate from college but she thought a job here in the United States was a big opportunity she could not pass.
I lived with my father for two years, since I was seven years old and eight years old. Honestly, they were not the best years of my life. My step-mother would treat me poorly. In addition, there was a lot of abuse in the house; whenever my father and my step-mother would argue, they would hit each other. I remember seeing bruises in her face every now and then. They would also hit my younger half-brother and me. He was only three years old at the time, but he was still too young to witness domestic abuse. Also, his parents did not him as a way to fix him, they would do it for every little thing. I do not want that type of life for him. He is about to start high school in Peru next year and I am afraid he will hang around bad crowds. My younger brother is part of the reason I try so hard to be successful now. I look back and
