What I Learned When I Came To College

When i first came to Baltimore I was thirteen and didn't have a care in the world about anything except for the fact that I'm leaving all my friends in South Carolina. Once I got to Baltimore and got settled in things were still really difficult getting use too. I had an extremely strict mother who I bumped heads with all the time and on the other hand I had to deal with the kids from school teasing me because I had a really strong southern accent.

As I got older and started high school I became familiar with the wrong crowd of friends, I started skipping school and things got worse at home with me and my mother. Eventually, I ended up being placed in foster care and still found it really hard to adjust too because of all the rumors that I

Now, three months after my son was born I was placed in a beautiful living program with wonderful mentors, I started my first semester in college February 1st, I am great with budging and time management, and have a lot of support from my biological mother and peers. Because of these reasons, right now is the perfect time for me to attend classes for my major of Business Administration. I am currently attending classes and do find it a little challenging with buying necessities like books and other school items as well as assistance with child care so that I can successfully attend class in the right state of mind, I am currently taking that needed steps for applying for day care vouchers to help with assistance; but, there is a waiting list of at least three months which is extremely irritating, and, very challenging to deal with. I am very confident that in one way or another I will be successful in order to make living for me and my children better and

Baltimore, Maryland is where I was born and raised. Baltimore can be considered a Mid-Atlantic state, but it’s south of the Mason-Dixon line. Baltimore can claim to be a blend of Northern and Southern American traditions. Baltimore is well known for its riots, violence, crime rate, the movie The Wire, and gang activities. Baltimore is very dangerous.…

Community gives me a sense of belonging; a feeling that is comforting and cheering. Then why would I not want to be part of the Central Connecticut State University community? Yet, I still tend to avoid joining clubs or participating in the events that the university host. Many students at Central can fall in that category with me. It is a continuous issue not only with this university, but other colleges such as AnyU, the university Rebekah Nathan attended.…

Changing social Identity to fit in I wanted as many friends as I can get after elementary. So in middle school, I devoted my time solely to fit in. From sixth grade to eighth grade I moved to three different schools. A different school each grade. It was left up to me alone to adapt and make friends.…

General impressions about the book I really enjoyed reading this book and didn’t have a hard time finishing it in one sitting. However, this book seemed incredibly stretched out and seemed like it was relating the same principle in different ways. I don’t think this book had a life-altering effect on me like so many others, but I did thoroughly enjoy reading it and looking at this perspective. I tried to envision myself in the book and completing the actions of all four characters.…

Applied Learning Out of all the electives that I took in High School, the engineering courses were my favorite ones. There were no written tests that required the memorization of topics that the class would not possibly need in future. Instead the class was assessed on projects that were spread out throughout the quarters. I took Mechanical Engineering as a freshman in high school and the whole class got to build their own moving catapult and the objective was to make a ball go through a hoop.…

Life is all about learning from your mistakes. One mistake I made changed my mentality forever. Spending 5,000 dollars in 3 months is one the worst and most remembered mistakes of my entire life. Clearly, I have learned in many ways possible on how to save money, and how to bypass spending it all in one place. Or to go back: November 26, 2016, I had left Virginia to work in Tennessee with my aunt.…

The purpose of this paper is to develop a sense of how college students across generations experience collegiate learning. To gain a better understanding, I interviewed a college student who is currently in their junior year working towards a bachelor’s of science degree in kinesiology. The student currently attends a large, research, land-grant institution that serves 48,000 students. Comparing my collegiate learning experience with the student, we focused on what learning means to us, how we characterizes our learning process in college, what three factors in college were most significant in influencing that learning, and how the collegiate environment supported or interfered with the learning experience.…

Reflecting back to how I was when I first arrive at the University of Central Florida I could say that I have grown a lot both academically and overall as a college student. Now that I have passed more than half of the semester I have gained confidence with what I’m doing and I think I got the hang of it. I could say that in general I am very satisfied with how I’m doing academically, I am doing well in both of my courses. Another thing that I could say is that not only have I already taken away a lot from UCF but the book “The Other Wes Moore” by Wes Moore that was assigned for us to read has taught me a lot. I also am on track with the goals that I’ve set for myself this semester…

Influences of Heredity and Environment I am the first-born of a stereotypical outspoken boisterous Italian/French Catholic family, where family and religion was the foundation of my life. From as far back as I can remember, there was laughing, loud talking, hand waving, hugging, kissing and unconditional love. I struggled to be in such an outspoken atmosphere at times because my personality as a child was more of an observer than a willing participant. I was at heart painfully shy, sensitive and insecure.…

I am really glad we got to plan for and execute this lesson before we actually teach a lesson in our classroom with the students. I not only was able to learn what went well and what I could work on but I also was able to learn from my peers and things that went well and what could be changed in their lesson. It was less pressure to do them with our classmates first than it will be to teach it in a class full of 4th and 5th grade students. For my lesson, I choose to do the topic of immigration because that is what they are going to be learning about next in social studies. This is the topic I did for my text set in this class.…
