What I Learned In This Class

This course was critical in helping me transfer from the young adult I was into the business world. After dropping out of high school at a young age, most of the things that I learned in this class gave me the confidence that I needed to make the move into the new world of business. I received my GED instead of graduating high school, which proved I was smart enough to pass the test, but actually learning how to do things and communicate in the real world was not something I was very good at until I took these classes.

The first job I obtained with the certificate was working at the local newspaper selling classified ads. I would not have been able to get the job with just a GED. I had no previous knowledge about typing until I took courses in the secretarial program. I was required to keep a cash drawer, accept payments, and bill people. The accounting that I had taken was very helpful. I know my boss was very impressed with the fact my drawer was always balanced. After working at my local paper for about five years, I applied to work at my hometown court house in Leavenworth, Ks.

I filed daily at this new job as a court clerk. I helped customers with questions and with filing in proceedings for their court cases. Customer service was very important when dealing with

I did many of the same things as a clerk here but had to learn more about confidential documents and because of my work ethic and history, I was able to move up within a few months to be a courtroom clerk. Being a courtroom clerk was more of an office environment then just being a clerk in the clerk’s office. Because of my training I knew that just because the dress code was not strict, I needed to step up my dress and be more professional if I wanted to move up any further. I did a lot of docketing on the computer and

I organised the calendars of the Bureau advisors and scheduled their appointments. I logged any letters we received in the database and alert the advisors who the information was most relevant to. It was also my responsibility to send the post off. I created reports on cases; then updated them whenever the bureau received new information. This experience identifying relevant information and recording it accurately will serve me well as a commercial solicitor overcoming both commercial and legal obstacles on a daily basis.…

I’m laying out a very specific plan for the next six months. I made this plan because there is something I’m aiming to accomplish six months from now. Taking the course in Medical Terminology and Interpersonal Course is the first step to achieve my goal. To run your own business, I really do believe that you have to love it for it to be a success, because if you don't, you would never give it the amount of time and money that it needed to boom. The last thing I learned about running a business is that I want to own a business that provides services and not goods just due to the nature of the business. Overall, I have found this not only a very interesting course, but an essential one as well. I think the rest of what I learn in business will somehow be related to something I learned in this course, and without the lessons I have learned I think this program would be shaped much differently.…

I have been impressed with the readings for this class. When it comes to incivility, it is interesting to see that even though it has been published in a book and articles have been written, there are still those who do not understand the magnitude of this issue in higher education or in the general public. I agree with Twale and DeLuca, when they state that incivility has behaviors that are indicative of bullying (Twale & DeLuca, 2008). When co-workers show intolerance or disrespect toward others, this really has a negative effect on an organization, a school, or a group. This is difficult to address when the incivility starts at the top of an organization and it breeds throughout the environment and it runs rampant.…

My greatest skill is that I don't let people's negative opinions on me bring me down anymore. In the 8th grade, the only thing that mattered to me was what people thought about me. I would try so much to try and conform to the many middle school trends, and I became a really self absorbed person. When entering high school, I stopped being like that and I started to care about actually important things like my grades and education. It is extremely easy to go back to your old ways and I did when I met my first boyfriend.…

Second grade discouraged me from giving reading and writing a chance. My peers teased me and humiliated me when I read aloud.
