What I Learned In My Writing Class

Decent Essays
This year I learned more about writing than any others years I had English. I loved the hand on practices, tips, and lessons that we always had to prepare us for the writing assignments. I am so used to learn all rules and figure out when to break them, and when to keep them. It was really confusing how l learn to write. Therefore I was never a good writer or cared to be one. This I actually wrote something that I thought was good. I liked how we talked about the assignments before hand. It sets us in the mood and informs us what we are writing. I learned that it is much easier to write about something that you can get to know the topic first instead of jumping right into it. I was always encouraged to pick a topic and just write something about it. The topics never did grow on me and I never cared about what I wrote. I just wrote for the sake of completing an …show more content…
I found this assignment very entertaining and thought provoking at first. I digged around my head and found some good times in all of my years in school. I remembered times that I actually liked school. It was when school was more like a play day than a job. I liked see my friends and just hang out with them. I wrote five to six pages about those good old days when the assignment required three to four pages. Then as i gave more thought on the topic, I realized the only reason I am where I am was because of all the people that were in my life. So I shifted gear, and rewrote another four to five pages about those people instead. It was hilarious when Mrs Longman and I tries to shorten the essay, because I never had any problem with exceeding the page limit before. We literally cut to the point where there is nothing can be cut. This assignment was excellent introduction to writing, it not only showed my what I am capable of, but also showed me why I am writing anything at all. It gave me a reason to put effort in the essays I

I can personally say that I feel the most accomplished about the improvements in my writing. Before this class, I did not like write at all. This was due to the fact that I was not the best at it. I was writing very generic essays that were filled with many, many grammatical errors. Now I feel as though my writing, and even my grammar has improved immensely.…

I started my journey through writing this year a bundle of nerves and a stomach full of coffee. This is my first year taking an advanced English course, but I was determined to do well. There has been no sleeping in class or slacking off this year, I’m lucky enough to take a college course a year early and at a better price, and I’m not going to waste it. I’ve learned a lot this semester, including but not limited to: identifying how exactly the author’s purpose and audience determines effective writing, developing pieces of writing though a process of planning, revising, and drafting, compose an organized essay with clear points and main ideas, used appropriate tone and formality, critiqued writing, and finally how to grasp the MLA format. My writing has improved through the concepts I have learned this semester.…

That was impossible! Finally, the rest of my classmates arrived, their eyes widening as they spied those nerve-wracking words on the board. The course started, and our teacher instructed us on how to write the essay. Then, she told us that we could pick any topic we wanted for the essay. This news definitely cheered us up some.…

I chose to revise the first and forth essay. I chose these because they are the shortest essays. I know you wanted me to revise my research essay because I did not have parenthetical citations, but during my writing center visit I asked about those and I learned where they should be and how they should look. When I revised my papers I tried to think about the questions someone else who is not familiar with the topics would ask about my papers and I answered them.…

    1) My overall opinion on how this semester is going learning Latin is positive and I think it is going very well. I have improved my daily study routine by adding the tried and true method of old fashion handwriting vocabulary words into my notebook. The class was introduced to the Memrise online resource in the language lab and that has definitely helped me identify my need to learn to spell Latin correctly. I have no problem picking out the correct meaning and translating individual Latin words if I see it in a list, but writing from memory has always been difficult for me.…

Dear, Professor Hampton I’ve been having a lot of trouble with my math course, I’ve never been very good at math, I’ve actually always struggled with it tremendously. I failed my previous test and it brought my overall grade down. I think I know the underlying problem besides not knowing my multiplication facts but, at times, in the classroom i find my mind wondering off and I have to literally talk to myself and channel out the distractions. My first question, what are some other methods I can use to channel out the outside distractions because it’s beginning to do harm to my school work. I’ve also been having a hard time connecting to my writing in my writing class, when i write what i want, I put much effort into and really take advantage…

This course has been a very interesting experience. I really enjoyed the tools presented to improve writing. From the choice of topic, to establish the thesis, to make an outline and to develop an essay, you can have an implementation of a protocol, as an experiment. I had never thought of writing that way and that I will certainly use this to my whole life. Another interesting aspect provided by distance learning is that it is necessary to develop the study routine.…

I fell in love with writing all over again. I won’t lie, my grammar is still not perfect but at least I have a better understanding of the rules. At first I thought it was to hold back how we wanted to write but it was to help make the paper more understanding; for it to be more polished. I really do thank my eighth grade teacher, Mrs. Bubp, for her help. Instead of struggling so much through high school writing like I did in middle school, it was actually so much easier.…

To be completely honest I have mixed feelings about writing and I don’t really have any memorable experiences that made me feel this way, it is just the experiences that I have had with the subject while trying to apply it. I struggle with what to write down mostly and creativity in general and I don’t really excel at any part of it. If I were to say I “excel” at anything it would be revising my work and adding to it. At the end of the semester I hope that I have relearned some key writing elements that lack of practice has caused me to lose.…

“A writer is someone for whom writing is more difficult than it is for other people.” ― Thomas Mann. Writing is a subject that is different for everyone. In my opinion if I could write about a topic I choose and I am passionate about I know my papers would be interesting to read. On the other hand, I when I am given a topic to write about I think it is harder to make the paper interesting and enjoyable to read.…

Like I previously stated I learned how to do many things with my writing this semester. The first essay we wrote, a narrative, was probably my favorite essay to write. Throughout the course of Composition 1, we were required to read one article every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and we were to discuss it in class. In our Reader-Writer Notebook we were instructed to record a response of 150 words describing the article and our thoughts about the article. As we advanced throughout the different articles we read, we were to better our writing in our notebook and hopefully expand our knowledge as a reader. Currently for the Reader-Writer Notebook I have done every entry which has totaled up to be 14 articles not including the articles written by the students which equalled out to be another 23 articles.…

This English class has been very helpful in my efforts to improve my writing abilities, but has also been very challenging due to there being a different median for every essay. It’s been a heavy work load especially this semester since I decided to enroll in five classes, but in the end it has been very beneficial indeed. I can’t say that writing essays has been one of my strong points but I believe that this course has helped me improve tremendously and it has also made me feel a lot more comfortable with my writing. While in high school I would usually write all of my essays a day before the due date a habit of mine that was very difficult to overcome, but now I have learned from my mistakes.…
