What I Learned In Dr. Kennedy's Class

Improved Essays
Throughout the semester in Dr. Kennedy's class I have improved on many writing skills and techniques. In the class I have worked on the meal plan, thesis statements, the flow of the paragraphs, putting research in my essay and writing conventions. Me being an early college student has been challenging, considering that the highest English that I have took is English 2. Also, English 111 0004 is my first real and important college class because I have only taken gym and computer classes. Even though the class have been a bit difficult, it has push me to write to the best of my ability. My progresses have been shown between my essays I have written; the biggest difference was between the pre-test essay and essay one. In those essays, I can tell …show more content…
My vast improvement on writing conventions are shown in pre-test essay and essay one. In the essays, I can see that my word choices and punctuation have greatly improved. I did not realize that word choices impact a person writing in the way it makes it sound more sophisticated. In pre-test, my words were elementary school words and in essay one I changed words into proper words for the level I am writing at. Another part of my progress has been getting used to being a college student and a high school student at the same time. High school and college varies in many ways, couple reasons are the work load, and freedom. In college, I feel the workload is less in high school because in college I do not have the class everyday so I have more time to get the work done. But, in high school I go to the classes every day and have less time to do homework assignments. Also, in college when I have an assignment it is my choice if I want to do it or not, and if I chose not to then I just get a zero there is not someone that keeps reminded me when I have to do something. In high school the teachers are always telling me turn something in and gives us extra created to makeup the assignments. One thing I did to keep my college and high school work in order and to make sure I get them turn in on time is to write the assignments down in a planner. The planner has helped me become a better student in the way that I have more time to get my assignments done, which improves the grade of my assignments. The progress I have made in ENG 111 class has helped improve my writing conventions and dealing with being in high school and college at the same

I started my journey through writing this year a bundle of nerves and a stomach full of coffee. This is my first year taking an advanced English course, but I was determined to do well. There has been no sleeping in class or slacking off this year, I’m lucky enough to take a college course a year early and at a better price, and I’m not going to waste it. I’ve learned a lot this semester, including but not limited to: identifying how exactly the author’s purpose and audience determines effective writing, developing pieces of writing though a process of planning, revising, and drafting, compose an organized essay with clear points and main ideas, used appropriate tone and formality, critiqued writing, and finally how to grasp the MLA format. My writing has improved through the concepts I have learned this semester.…

Over the course of English 102, I have developed a new set of skills and learned to become a better writer. When I first came into English 102 I struggled with many different concepts of writing. During the semester in English 102, my writing became stronger because I learned how to incorporate evidence into my argument, do more thorough research, have smoother transitions, and have more organization throughout my essay. I learned how to peer review better and to take what others say and incorporate it into my essay. In the beginning, before English 102, I struggled with good organization and flow to an essay, sandwich evidence into paragraphs, and having strong arguments in persuasive essays.…

When asked to write about and describe myself I often have to stop and ask myself how would someone who knows me, describe me to someone who doesn’t know me at all. I feel unique would probably be the most fitting adjective for describing Robert Yamane. I enjoy being challenged and never walk away from a problem that I know I can solve. Puzzles are great examples, but more importantly I want to be challenged in the classroom. Which is a huge reason why I want to attend Punahou.…

I’ve chosen to focus on “Exploration and Argumentation” as the subject of this reflective introduction, specifically looking at my argument paper, “Abortion: Right or Wrong?” as a reference to the importance of this learning outcome. I chose to focus on this particular learning outcome because it was the most difficult essay for me to create. While writing this essay it was difficult for me to understand and reciprocate the opposing viewpoint. Understanding an unfamiliar idea and giving ideas for or against a topic is key to creating a fluent argumentative essay.…

In college you are required to have all homework or any missed tests or assignments done with no reminder from teachers like you get in high school. You are also required to get help if needed in college because teachers do not approach you with the request if they think you need help. This English class has been very helpful in my efforts to improve my writing abilities, but has also been very challenging due to there being a different median for every essay. It’s been a heavy work load especially this semester since I decided to enroll in five classes, but in the end it has been very beneficial indeed. I can’t say that writing essays has been one of my strong points but I believe that this course has helped me improve tremendously and it has also made me feel a lot more comfortable with my writing. While in high school I would usually write all of my essays a day before the due date a habit of mine that was very difficult to overcome, but now I have learned from my mistakes.…
