What I Learned In Calculus Class

Approaching junior year, I remained uncertain regarding my upcoming course choices. I had taken Math III during the previous semester and felt confident in my math abilities when reflecting upon the course. I knew I needed one more math credit, but I did not know if I should sign up for Honors Discrete Mathematics or Honors Precalculus. Knowing I would face a Calculus class while in college, I decided to take Honors Precalculus, not knowing the challenge that awaited me. Consequently, I consulted friends and acquaintances regarding the course and its rigor. I wanted to know what to expect the moment I walked in the classroom. I often heard stories of not being permitted to utilize a calculator, boatloads of homework, and a discourteous instructor. Hearing all of these stories, I assumed most individuals I asked simply exaggerated their stories,or did not perform well in mathematics courses. However, I found everyone who I asked about the matter had told the truth. …show more content…
I had my head held high, feeling confident in my abilities. While I appeared as phlegmatic as possible, my classmates and I soon received a review packet in order to brush up on essential skills. I flipped through the packet, feeling clueless and lost. Although I had a group to assist me with the packet, I still felt hopeless. As the first six weeks of the class continued, my muddled feeling persisted. My average during the first six weeks resulted in a lower final grade than I wanted and a week of crying. While I felt as if I could not possibly pass the class, my fate ended up in my favor. My classmates and I soon received the news that a student teacher would soon teach on a daily basis. I felt as though a huge weight was lifted from my shoulders. The student teacher soon began teaching the class, leading to me actually making an A in the class. I felt as though I was on top of the
