I will be writing about what I learned in English II this far this school year. English, in which literature and writing take a prominent stance, is an important subject to comprehend. In English you will learn everything from the techniques to writing the perfect essay to using context clues to find the meaning of the words you don’t understand. I have learned many new things that I have never known before now. I would’ve never suspected that there is many new topics in English that I haven’t covered before, but I was very wrong. Starting from the book “Secret Life of Bees” to having a nerve racking experiencing posting a first blog post and then being personally involved firsthand in a debate about the justification of trickery is just a couple of the things I have been well-educated on this year in English II. The first important thing I have learned about is family. From the “Secret Life of Bees” I learned what family really is. Family is a person who supports you in all your decisions, even if they don’t agree with them. A person who loves you no matter what the circumstances and who wants you in their life. A person who is willing to sacrifice their needs and wants before your own. A person who will there fore you. That’s what family is to me and that’s what I want to try and do for my family. Family isn’t always …show more content…
First, we were given a topic to justify if Puss’s trickery was acceptable by going against an opposing team. Mrs. Henry, my English teacher, supplied us with a Lincoln Douglas chart that helped my team and I during the debate. Basically what we had to do was have facts that would support if Puss was guilty or not, which in my case he was unjust. By preparing my debate ahead of time I was able to go against the opposing team and give facts that would support my argument. Even though I didn't win, I walked away with the knowledge of how to prepare a strong

Depression is another one of those “first-world” problems us humans face as a society. Although it seems like a deathly globe-renowned issue is in mainly todays -mostly in teens- current society, Sue Monk Kidd demonstrates how depression may have affected those over fifty years ago- especially the South-American colored people of the Civil Rights Era in 1964. In The Secret Life of Bees, May, an oddly complex character, changes in the novel because of her depression. May is often portrayed as a very gentle, compassionate and selfless character, who immensely feels the suffering and pain of others on an emotional level because of the death of her twin sister. She changes into a character who is selfish and neglectful as she isolates herself,…

Family Introduction Creating this genogram was a difficult task for me because my parents and their siblings hardly communicate with each other anymore. Ever since the passing of both my paternal grandfather and maternal grandmother, the families have simply fallen apart. Many relatives have distanced themselves from their extended families, and no longer have a desire to interact with their siblings or cousins. Sociopolitical and spiritual issues have caused some members of both families to harbor resentment against one another.…

In Sue Monk Kidd’s novel, The Secret Life of Bees, Kidd indirectly characterizes Lily as resilient through displaying Lily’s inner strength when dealing with hardships in her life to convey that even adolescents can be resilient in the face of adversity. For instance, Lily’s resilience is clearly depicted when the circumstances with her hair are revealed, “My hair was constantly going off in eleven wrong directions, and T. Ray, naturally, refused to buy me bristle rollers, so all year I’d had to roll it on Welch’s grape juice cans”(3). The phrase, “...so all year I’d had to roll it on Welch’s grape juice cans,” further emphasizes the resilient personality of Lily. When Lily did not have proper tools, she resorts to what she had to get the job…

Throughout the entirety of this English 101 course, I have seen my skills as a writer grow. In the beginning of the school year, my writing fell short of my expectations, but as I continued to work and learn the principles of writing, I have written papers that I am proud to say are mine. Among the aspects of my writing I have improved, the best strives are seen within my my counter arguments and overall strength and coherency of my papers. To begin, when looking at a paper I wrote in August on necessity of first drafts, there were large gaps in my elaboration, bringing concerns as to whether I was arguing and proving a point or merely summarizing what Lamott, the author of the article, originally said. When attempting to argue my evidence, I stated,…
