Going through this course I found the book by Lawler to be very useful. There was a lot of truth revealed reading that book, and I plan to use the knowledge I learned from reading it for my personal growth within FedEx. I made a lot of connection with Lawler and his book with treating people right. His statement with why treating people right will pay off is that “in this new era, people need to be respected and treated as precious human capital, more essential to an organization’s effectiveness than its financial capital” (Lawler, 2003, p. 3). This is true, people are the heart of any organization, and they need to be treated with the utmost respect, and cherished as employees because whether you do or not both have an outcome it could …show more content…
Like FedEx it is a growing organization still today and has been around for a while now. Still growing it has been able to attract more employees each year because of their environment, what they offer for their employees, and how they treat their employees. Being around so long FedEx follows the virtuous spiral; strategy, organizational design, staffing, performance, rewards, staffing, performance, rewards, and etc. I do not see FedEx ever going the opposite direction of the virtuous spiral which is the death spiral which is the result when organization do not treat their people right. The death spiral is the result when organizations mistreat their employees and is the opposite of the virtuous spiral instead of being prosperous, organization tend to fail. Lawler (2003) mentions that death spirals occur when organizations mistreat their human capital, and as a result, their performance declines, causing repercussions that lead to further declines and in many cases death (p. 16). In any case the result is that the organization will no longer exist and become a thing of the past. I can connect with the death spiral because I fear that it could affect my …show more content…
All these goals have got me motivated, and being motivated I made the connection in Lawler book on the impact of goals and motivation. “Research backs this up by showing that when individuals commit themselves to a goal, they are highly motivated to achieve it” (Latham, Locke, 1990, p.49). That is exactly true for me, whenever I set a goal I am persistent on not giving up. I never did give up on my dream in working with logistics I was motivated to find a place that I could work for; it did take me some time to find the right place, but I never gave up, and I am finally working with the organization that I have always dreamed of working for. In conclusion I have learned a lot in this class especially from reading Lawler. The knowledge I am taking with me to further benefit my future on my career is following the seven principles of treating people right. Following these principle I can put them to use in my everyday life, and as well when I become in a leadership position. These principles should be followed in order for an organization to have a virtuous spiral, and the virtuous spiral is another concept that I will take with me because it will remind of what happens when you do not treat people right, and

If the goals that are set are vague in nature, motivation to achieve them will decrease. Your goals need to be realistic enough that achieving them is possible, but challenging enough so that they warrant a desirable amount of effort and motivation to achieve them. In other words, they should not be easy to achieve, but also not impossible. The ideal set of goals need to be “task oriented” in that they focus on performing many small, short term tasks in order to achieve a larger, long-term goal. There needs to be a larger amount of emphasis on achieving small victories instead of just striving towards one huge, multifaceted goal, as this will cause you to lose heart over time and come to believe that your ultimate goal is achievable.…

As a former employee of Panda Express I have experienced and seen how employees are trained. Although the techniques that the newly employed individuals are taught can be effective, it doesn’t allow them to fully understand the concepts. Therefore they cannot perform their job correctly or efficiently, and would create problems later on from the lack of training. I have noticed several instances that can be fixed directly. Not only does a new way of training help the employees, it also benefits the managers and the establishment in return.…
