What I Learned: Course Analysis

Improved Essays
By asking myself "What have I learned in this course" many different things come to mind. Since the start of this course we have discussed a variety of different things and had so many different objectives to accomplish each week throughout this fifteen week course that it is hard to pinpoint which is the most important.
As far as fulfilling all the objectives that we had to fulfill from this course, which were listed in the syllabus, I think that I have been able to fulfill most if not all the objectives. I have been able to fulfill and accomplish these many different objectives through my use of both my analytical and critical reading skills when reading the different texts, along with understanding the time periods each of the texts were written in as the time played a huge role when trying to interpret what the author is trying to say. Another way I had accomplished these learning objectives was taking by advantage of the additional resources we were provided with, along with having the input

Through completing this course, I now understand that when it comes to analytical reading it is important to first sort of understand the type of book you are reading, whether it is a play, novel, expository piece of literature, etc. Once you understand the type of book you are reading then it is easy to start picking things apart and looking more at the structure of the book and how it is put together. Critical reading also helped me to widen my range of questions to ask throughout the text by asking myself things such as "does this make sense?" or "does the author provide us with a compelling

Hello, My reason for substituting this course is due to the fact that I have already learned the knowledge and concepts from a course taken from a previous school (ENGL 102 from the Community College of Philadelphia) which satisfy the course objectives for ENGL 202C. With this course, I learned the techniques I need to write an effective technical paper. During this course, I wrote multiple papers which dealt with various aspects of our world today, such as science and technology, social interaction, and economic facets. This gave me an advantage because not only did I know how to write an effective paper in science and technology (the main theme of ENGL 202C), I also wrote on other factors of life which allowed me to broaden my horizon and…

I initially signed up for PSYCH 1101 to fulfill a distribution requirement, but it turned out to be so much more for me. Having never been exposed to psychology in high school, I was curious to see what psychology was and whether I would like or not. Turns out, I liked it a lot. Taking PSYCH 1101 seemed to open my eyes to a whole new branch of science. The reason psychology interests me is because I can directly apply many of the studies not only to my own behaviors and thought processes, but also to the actions of those around me.…

Throughout the year AVID has helped me learn organizational skills enormously. I say this because at the beginning of the year I didn’t know how I was going to complete all the work I received and I didn’t really understand the time management part. So as we started getting more and more homework, I found it was important to use your planner and to do your homework the night it was assigned. Several times I fell into a whole on Thursday nights, when we had binder the next day.…

People are taught how to read at a young age. They progress through school learning various techniques to help read the material more efficiently. One way is learning to how critique their assigned readings, and helps the young adults develop a better understanding of the text. A student assists their reading skills this way, because they are now able to apply different applications to the text. This opens their minds to understand different ways to interpret the reading rather than just form an opinion, which is important because not every child is taught how to read in the same school or under the same level of criticism.…

At the beginning of my final year of high school, a significant educational opportunity was introduced to me: a political science class was being offered at my high school by Merced College. I was very excited to find out about this course because of my plans to major in political science and eventually find a career in the politics. Of all possible subjects, I was very lucky to have this college course offered at my small school that otherwise would not offer opportunities like this. I had absolutely no doubts about taking the class. The course started on the night of the first day of school, and I was overwhelmed with the workload that was presented in the first class.…

Before this course, I did not know grammar well, and what I did know I did not fully understand. Yet, due to taking the course, I learned more about the structure of the English language, and can use grammar better than I did before. For instance, the first three major assignments were filled with missing comas, verb-tense misuses, and run-on sentences. Now, I may still make mistakes, but I know why I have made them. In other English courses, I had grammar homework and reading assignments that, often, seemed to be busy work, but with this course, I did not think that was the case.…

In Matthew Sander’s book Becoming a Learner, many conventional ideas are challenged. These unconventional ideas tend to put the burden, or rather the opportunity as Matthew Sander’s argues, of learning onto the student rather than the teacher or learning institution, which is becoming a less and less popular idea in everyday U.S. society. Personally, through high school I had a similar approach, in large part because of the way my parents taught me, who happen to both be graduates of USU. So, their approach to teaching me to become a learner and not a passive student, as Mr. Sanders puts it, makes sense.…

It feels like so long ago when I first began this English course. I can remember being so excited about the class topic, racism and social justice, which I felt that I had a lot of passion for. Little did I know that I would have to gather up even more enthusiasm and passion to be able to continue writing papers about the same topic all semester long. This course has tested my endurance, and at many times my patience, and for that I am thankful because I know in the end, it has made me a better writer. Despite various minor challenges this semester I believe that I have put in the hard work that it takes and I have achieved the course goals and will complete this class feeling fulfilled and accomplished.…

The school leaving age in England had been set at age 16 since 1972. The Education & Skills Act (2008) increased the `age of participation` to age 17 from 2013 and then to age 18 from 2015. This has meant that any young person born on or after 1st September 1997 has to participate in some form of education or training until the age of 18. Young people not in education, employment or training (NEET) has been an increasing social problem for the Government.…
