Personal Reflection: Areas Of Ministry

Improved Essays
The PLACE assessment that we took was surprising helpful in clarifying what personality and skills I have, what areas of ministry I’m truly passionate about, and it even generated more questions for me to investigation. I have taken a couple of personality tests in the past, but this one was different because it gave me so much more feedback than just telling me how I think. I love that this assessment takes a look at spiritual gifts, and then gives plenty of bible verses and explanation to help with understanding what each one means. I really believe that this was a useful tool and was very impressed by how much I actually enjoyed the results. I learned a lot of surprising things from taking this assessment such as that my top spiritual …show more content…
To expand, I’ve always loved kids, and babysitting and loving on children, but I didn’t realize that I would really love to minister to them in the future. There were also many parts of this assessment that gave me some things to question and look into further. The obvious were my weaknesses, and thinking of things I can do to better those faults. I also want to explore my passions a little more as well. Maybe get involved in some children’s ministry to see if that is really something I would enjoy doing. Also, I want to further explorer my spiritual gifts and see how I can use my gift of mercy to better serve God. That all being said, I think the most substantial thing I learned from taking this PLACE assessment is the reassurance that God has made each and every one …show more content…
Of course no assessment test can be perfect, but this one was very close. It was a lot of fun to see my own gifts while comparing them to others. It sparked a lot of conversation and questions about what God may use my gifts and personality for in the future, or if my passions may change. All in all, this assessment was successful in showing me my own character traits, what my passions for ministry really are, some things to question and look into further, and finally that God has made us each unique to serve him in all different kinds of

Looking over the directions on how to complete the Clifton StrengthsFinder assessment it sounded like another psychological analysis into our minds to track the way we think (Anderson, Clifton, & Schreiner, 2006). It reminded me of a test given by major companies to a candidate for an available position to see what made you tick or find out if you would steal from them or go postal on the whole company. But to my surprise I actually learned something about myself, things that came natural to me to the point of not really paying any attention to them. According to this assessment my top strength is Strategic which does make sense to me when I started to review the results printed out on my report.…

Diana Garland stated that “family ministry is any activity that directly or indirectly (1) forms families in the congregation community; (2) increases the Christlikeness of the family relationships of Christians; or (3) equips and supports families for the work to which they are called together.” Earlier in the reading she stated that “The flurry of programs called family ministry is the fear that Christian families are falling apart and need churches to strengthen and support them.” Diana Garland’s definition is what I strive for in ministry and I believe that she also is aware…
