What I Learned At College Essay

This semester, even though it is not over yet, I learned a lot about myself. Going away to college was a huge adjustment but I adjusted well the first couple of weeks and now Athens feels like home now more than ever. I knew going away to college was going to be a challenge but I was excited for a fresh start. For the skills category, I learned finally how to study effectively. In high school, I never studied because I could just show up and do my homework and get a B or higher. I never could really bring myself to study anyways, it was always a challenge for me. In college, I finally had to put in real effort and take responsibility in my education. I learned how to effectively study by not waiting until the last possible day to study and study 3-5 days, even a week in advance. I had to learn how to study sooner rather than later, but I adjusted well and now it’s no problem for me. I also learned different note-taking strategies when our learning community went to Bentley hall and listened on how to take notes more effectively. The video we watched on the 3-5 different note taking strategies was very helpful for me and I am glad our learning community had to go to that. Another skill I learned was listening to lectures and no to zone out. Usually whenever there is a lecture I always zone out and miss important information. I learned if you just turn your phone off and pay attention for the full 50 minutes it really is not that hard to pay attention. It is often boring for…
