The Importance Of A Vocational Ministry

As I have matured in my spiritual walk with Christ, it has become increasingly apparent to me that it is vital for one to put one’s life in the hands of the Savior. Not doing so will lead one to look back at the end of one’s life and realize that all of its selfish passions were, as Solomon expresses in Ecclesiastes, complete vanity. What I do for the Lord and my carrying out of the Great Commission is the only worthwhile aspect of my life. The key to having this attitude lies in where my focus is. It is truly about keeping an eternal perspective on all the facets of my life. Accordingly, I have and will continue to ask God for wisdom concerning which path I should take in life. One path that has come across my heart is the idea of a vocational ministry. The other path that has come across my heart is a career in law. These two options seem extremely polar at first. However, I am reminded by Ephesians 3:20 that God is able to do “exceedingly abundantly above all that [I] ask or think, according to the power that works in [me].” That is why I pray to God that in my future, somehow, these two fields can merge together so I can create the large impact on my community that I desire. There would be exceeding joy in my heart if I can serve the community by fighting for various individuals in the court of law as a public defender and also have a profession in the church that involves teaching the Word of God to the youth at the same time. Yet, concerning leadership in ministry in the church, I haven’t had that experience.
