Personal Narrative: Changing My Eating Habits

Improved Essays
When I was younger, I was always criticized for being too skinny. People would mumble “chicken-legs” or “toothpick” behind my back and sometimes even to my face. I was always being told to eat as much as I could so I could get some meat on my bones, so I did. Around my 8th grade year summer, before entering high school, my whole body changed. I’m not sure if it was me finally reaching adolescence, but I sure did change my eating habits. I finally started to gain some weight, but my body was still in shape because I have always been an athlete. I have been playing soccer for as long as I could remember and it always kept me fit. Throughout my high school years, I remained lean and tall, but I was eating a lot. Senior year, along with all the …show more content…
I remember the first time I tried it was at one of my friends house and it was probably the best food experience I have ever had. She was having a dinner party and her family is very italian, so I was extremely excited to try all the good food. When I saw the lasagna, I didn’t even know what it was. I just saw pasta and cheese, but it looked so good. My mouth watered as I was staring it down and could just imagine how good it was going to taste. Of course, when I tried it, I really felt like I went to heaven and tried the best lasagna in the world. It had the perfect amount of cheese, tomato sauce, pasta, and beef in it that made it so rich and delicious. I had so much of it in one day I felt like I could live off of it for the rest of my life. Just thinking about it honestly makes my mouth water and I get so excited because I love it that much. I could eat lasagna at any time of the day but I definitely cannot eat it from anywhere. There are certain places at home I like getting it from specifically, but what I love the most is making it on my own and adding enough of everything I like. I even add my own Hispanic touch to it to make it even better for me. My favorite food will always be lasagna because I haven’t had anything yet that I adore that much, and until I do, it will remain that

I just ate my 490 calorie breakfast. I need to stop eating such a big breakfast every morning. I don't eat very big for dinner (if I can get away with it) or lunch. Breakfast is the only meal I look forward to; I crave sweet stuff when I wake up in the morning for some reason, so I eat like a fatass.…

My lunches became salads, or wraps. I began to lose weight, and I went down to 125 in 8th grade, a low weight for a girl my height. I acquired the habit of weighing myself everyday, but if people asked how much I weighed, I lied and said that I couldn’t remember the last time I checked. In reality, I would just be mad at myself for being 128 from that huge burger and plate of fries I had the night before. When my brother started to date his girlfriend Madi, I saw that she would always drink protein shakes, and when she ate supper with us would only eat fruits and vegetables.…

Being born as a stray cat means I have to scavenge for food, and one thing I learnt from being a scavenger for years is humans are mostly callous. One night, when I was still a scrawny, little kitten, my mom took me and my siblings to a temple, and afterwards left us under the shade of a mangosteen tree at the temple’s yard while she was looking for food. She said we would be safe there since a temple is a place for human to pray and they are not allowed to do mischief there. Hearing my mom said that did make me feel safe, but that feeling of safety did not stay for long.…

I never would have thought that I would have my quench for volunteering come from taking School and Society. Initially, I wasn’t completely sure about whether or not I would enjoy the experiences, but I ended up getting so much out of all the experiences. When it came to the first couple weeks volunteering for Food Recovery Network, I ended up falling in love with the concept of donating food that would have been wasted to the cafeteria to places that need help. I volunteered almost every monday and friday then an entire week.…

Dieting seems to be all the rage right now. Skinny people that want to lose a pound or two does not compare to those of us who are overweight and struggling to lose weight. I have been there, but, thanks to Weight Watchers, I am no longer struggling in my weight loss plan. After searching, trying, and failing many different varieties of diet, I saw a Weight Watchers commercial on TV, advertising a free week trial. I put down the remote, and logged on to receive my free trial.…

Earlier this year in January, I decided to start my weight loss journey. I managed to get rid of thirty-seven pounds throughout a period of six months. Along with a massive change of physical appearance, this journey also generated a lot of mixed responses from my family and friends. I heard many comments such as, “look at your bones sticking out of your shoulders stop now, you look unhealthy,” but also, there were others that said, “you look amazing, congratulations, you deserve it”. This giant wave of fluctuating comments got me thinking: what is the difference between looking healthy and looking good?…

Eating Healthy Last week when I went to the grocery store, I found that the price of food was a little bit on the expensive side. As I walked through the aisles of the store I heard a voice behind me saying that trying to eat healthy is like a luxury, you know like getting your hair done. You do not need it, but you want it. We both chuckled and parted ways. Then, I started thinking that if I really wanted to eat healthy then it is worth paying the price.…
