What Happens When Should High School Start Later?

Stanford Medicine says that “87% of American high school students get less than the recommended amount of sleep.” A 2015 study shows that teens get substantially less sleep than they did 20 years ago. The average teenager needs 10 to 12 hours of sleep each night. This may seem like a minor thing, but it could cause major issues in their lives and the lives of others. It can also affect their relationships. This small amount of sleep may seem like a small thing in this short term scenario, but it could be a major issue. Sleeping is an important part of everyone's lives; school is also very important. What happens when they both get in the way of each other? In this paper I am going to talk about how the brain is still developing during the teenage years, the dangers that a lack of sleeping or sleep deprivation can cause, and the effects of interrupting sleep cycles. The human brain develops from birth all the way through a human’s late 20s and early 30s. Sleep is a major factor in the productivity of the brain. Teens are still developing their brains, the dangers of lack of sleeping or sleep deprivation, and interrupting sleep cycles for grades. Public school should start later, there are many organizations to support in this movement, like School Start Later. Some schools in the United States have implemented some form of school start times starting later, and even in some countries. So I believe that you should go out and try to convince your school later for the health of their students and
