When a basketball shot is thrown it follows a motion of a parabola. The ball would firstly start by moving upward in an angle, but it is eventually pull back down to the ground by gravitational energy. A projectile is when gravitational energy is the only force which is acting on a object. There are a number of different examples of projectiles. If a ball is dropped from rest, if a ball is thrown vertically and if a ball is thrown in upwards in an angle like a basketball shot they would all have projectiles. Assuming that all these examples don’t include the influence of air resistance.
