When he came to Salem, he was determined to not let anything get to him, and not declare witchcraft unless he can prove it. In act 2 he is seen as the hero, and many people thank him for removing witchcraft. “Mr. Proctor, your house is not a church; your theology must tell you that” (Miller, 1170).
