1. What factors influenced your decision to pursue a teaching career?

My choice to pursue teaching began with my interest and enjoyment in working with children. Over the years, I have held a few positions working with kids, whether it was with infants or middle school age children, at a daycare or in a school. Seeing children discover new things and take pleasure in doing so has been a very rewarding experience. As a student, I have performed well academically, but I have had to overcome struggles with the minor academic deficits. Helping children overcome their own academic issues and succeed in school is my ultimate goal. Having the opportunity to teach students and witness them learn, as well as, take interest into the material that they are learning would be extremely gratifying.

2. What are the three most important attributes of an effective teacher? Patience, organization, and adaptability are very important attributes that I have improved and implemented in the completion of my course work at IUE. Patience is a major quality to have when working with children. Each child is unique in the way they learn and behave. In the classroom, I see myself as someone that is able to adjust lessons and assignments according to the needs of my students. Although, I have a good sense of humor and would like the classroom to be a fun and inviting environment, I am able to be a strong and fair disciplinarian. My experience in the school system as a paraprofessional and an ISR liaison has helped me learn a balance between being too lenient and or too strict. These positions have allowed me to gain experience as a reliable and authoritative figure, as well as, a first-hand experience with assisting and teaching children with and without special education accommodations and/or
