A primary role of the nurse educator is to create a positive learning environment in the clinical setting for all students and provide strategies to meet the student’s learning needs (Adeniran & Smith-Glasgow, 2010). According to Lukacs (2017), "Students learn most effectively in settings that provide encouragement and support, and who make them feel they are part of the team. Many factors contribute to creating a positive clinical learning environment". Furthermore, a positive and supportive CLE enhances students’ social and emotional well-being and ensures their motivation to continue trying, it builds confidence in students’ abilities and also strengthens their ability to effectively deal with daily stress (Froneman & Du Plessis, n.d.). Additionally being paired with positive, supportive mentors in the clinical setting report this as being one of the biggest factors in promoting a positive learning environment (Lukacs, 2017). Three important factors I believe are essential in creating a positive CLE for students as well as clinical educators include:

COMMUNICATION: freedom of expression is key in creating a positive and constructive learning environment, which allows students to express their own thoughts and ideas without the fear of being discriminated (Froneman & Du Plessis, n.d.). Ideally, educators would want to create a non-threatening and enjoyable interpersonal climate to communicate openly. Furthermore, student interaction can improve the relationship with the educator (Froneman & Du Plessis, n.d.).
