What elements are out there that makes up a short story? Think of how many different types of elements really go into the making of an author’s short story. To me, Theme, characters, conflict, plot, and setting are just some common elements that make up a short story. While these may make up a short story, there are also many other elements that help make a short story. In Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s short story, “The Handsomest Drowned Man in the World”, all of these elements are brought up in a very detailed fashion. These five elements are very important to a short story, because without one of these things in it, the story wouldn’t really flow or make sense. “The Handsomest Drowned Man in the World”, takes place in a small fishing village.
