What Effect Does Caesar Have On The Crowd

The tragedy of Julius Caesar is a play written by William Shakespeare. It is set in Rome during the time of Caesar. The people of Rome adored him and everything he did with the exception of a few. Cassius the leader of the conspiracy felt that Caesar was nothing to praise and should not be king. Cassius allowed these feelings to get the best of him and openly shared them with others. In an attempt to take action Cassius chose Brutus as his target. Brutus was greatly loved by Caesar and easily persuaded. Brutus being the honourable man he was only wanted the best for Rome and the people that lived there. It wasn’t long before Brutus began to second guess Caesar being king. Cassius’s plan was a success and Brutus was now against Caesar, which led to the execution of him. After the death of Caesar many people were unsure of how to feel until both Brutus and Antony spoke at his funeral. Antony in my opinion was Caesar’s yes man and his personal lap dog. He did everything Caesar asked without hesitation. The relationship and feelings both men shared had a great effect on the crowd. The first speech was given by the honourable Brutus. It was clearly shown that both men cared for Caesar greatly. Antony however used his “love” to sway the people and take them for granted. He used Caesar’s death to take over the city and he no longer grieved. This says a lot about his character, the people however made the decision off of the speech instead of character. However Antony did have the more effective speech. He quickly turned the city against the group of conspirators. In my opinion the people were gold diggers and did not truly love or miss Caesar. They loved what he offered after death and for that reason none of them are as honourable as they
