I started wrestling for the Smithville Youth Wrestling Club. At the time I was in the fifth grade and I was 12 years old. At first I hated the idea of wrestling because of the tight singlet you had to wear, and also the idea of people making fun of you because of “rolling around with other guys”. Plus to make thing worse a lot of the other kids there have already wrestled since they were 5 which gave them more experience. I remember coming home from practice and just hating wrestling because it was hard work…

All brought back because of the one thing we all have in common, wrestling. Whether it be meeting again as parents, watching our sons or daughters wrestle, or even as future coaches. And one day, when my appetite for wrestling has been sated, I'll come home from work, go down to the basement, pull out an old box, pull out a pair of dusty wrestling shoes, and just enjoy the flood of memories that swarm me thinking about my time spent under a lone spot light illuminating a mat, in a dim-lit loud hotel room, or on a crowded bus traveling to a meet listening to the laughter of the people I love. No matter where I go, no matter what I do, I'll always remember the time I spent here, every day that I live. Thank…

Since the time of the Greeks and Romans, wrestlers have competed both on the battle field and at home to see who will win. Many sports advertise challenging competition similar to that of wrestling, but very few can follow through with these promises. This happens because these other sports do not build themselves on set standards such as mental and physical strength and technique.
