What Does Volunteer Work Mean To Me

As Jean Louis was able to learn from Atticus, there is a value to connecting with the people of your community. I have reflected upon these lessons from literature, as well as the lessons in my own life to discern the importance of community connection and volunteer work.
There are two main extracurricular activities that have shaped me into who I am today. Without understanding the significance of what I was embarking upon, I started volunteering in the nursery at my church. Over the past six years, I have connect with many of the parents, the other volunteers, and to my surprise even the babies and toddlers whom I have watched grow. I am only a volunteer, but I

This is quite a bit of responsibility, and I believe that I have earned their trust. I have taught other volunteers how to work in the nursery and how to work with the babies. I hope this responsibility will reflect my work that could be done in the honors program, as the nursery has taught me how to juggle all the many important duties as a leader. In addition to nursery work, over the past five years I have been participating in competitive cross country. It is extremely hard work, and it takes a great amount of perseverance and dedication to meet the challenges of competitive distance running. Through being on the team, I have achieved strong work ethics, determination, and pride in my work. For the past two years, I have had the honor of being the team captain. I learned the value of compromise and the power that team collaboration can have. A team with the right leaders is able to embrace each member and bring out everyone’s best characteristics.
