What Does Vincent Van Gogh's What It Means To Be Creative?

The segment written by S.I. Hayakawa “What It Means to Be Creative” went over countless aspects of being a creator that are witnessed in Van Gogh’s life. Van Gogh “was born in Groot-Zondert, Holland on March 30, 1853” (Impact, the Net.). He had many jobs before becoming an artist, which included a clerk, art salesman, and preacher. From around 1888 to current, since his paintings are sought after to this day Vincent Van Gogh is considered one of the famous painters of his time. He only sold one painting when he was alive, but today his paintings are famous. Van Gogh was sent to the Saint-Remy asylum for treatment in 1888. “In May of 1890 after a couple of years at the asylum, he seemed much better and went to live in Auvers-Sur-Oise” (Impact, …show more content…
In one letter he states “Which we seek to confer by the actual radiance and vibrations of our colourings.” (Van Gogh 531) Viewing everything in a different light and being able to see the beauty in the world around him, he wants to be able to paint what he observes and not what everyone else sees the world as. Furthermore, Van Gogh’s other letter states “One feels that the colours of the prism are veiled in the mists of the north.” (Van Gogh 605) He is saying that he recognizes all the different colors around him and that when he was in the north those colors were hidden. He also see’s things through different eyes, “She is a woman whose looks have faded, a poor soul, resigned to her fate, nothing out of the ordinary and so insignificant that I long to paint that dusty blade of grass” (Van Gogh 605). In this part of the letter he sees the beauty even in things that most people would tend to not even take a second look at. He sees what this woman has gone through and wants to paint her as she currently is. It shows that not everything in the world is bright and flashy but there can still be beauty in the
