Everyone in the town knew that Emily had never been married. Her father kept her in the house most of the time closely to him until he died. Her father loves her dearly but he kept her so close she didn't get to experience love from any other man. After being lonely and locked up with her father for so long she was finally free. She met a construction worker, named Homer Barron. Homer was seen around town w her frequently but when his work finished he vanished for a week. Emily realizes that he isn't gonna be the one to marry her and she kills him so he can never leave her again. The rose symbolizes the love she never received and the flowers that she never got.
