The root “venge” means to “protect, avenge, punish”. One of the things I’ve noticed is that all the words connect back to revenge, which could potentially be similar to vengeance. By performing an act of revenge, you’re protecting someone, avenging (making up for) what was done wrong and it’s punishment for whoever made the mistake. Clearly “venge” is related to revenge, but I think it could also be linked to vengeance.
