What Does The Military Mean To Me

Decent Essays
The military is a very important part of our country, without the military we have no freedom, no rights, no stable government, and really no country. Everyone understands that a veteran has been through a lot, but what about the families with them? I am here now to tell you my side of being a military child. This is not a pity story, but how the military affected me positively. The military has been a great experience for me because I have grown major respect for others, traveled to different places, and understand just what sacrifice means. In America, we have the right to vote, work, drive and many more activities we can partake in and to this we owe our veterans. It’s because of them that I can walk freely; they inspire me. Veteran: a person who has served in the military. That’s the definition that Google gives you when you type it in, but to me a veteran is more than that. I come from a military family. Words like loyalty and respect are commonly used in my home especially when it comes to describing my father and my grandfather, both veterans who have given up their time to serve this nation. Due to my father serving overseas, I know how it feels to wake up in the morning, walk down the hall, and expect to see a warm smile welcoming you to the kitchen, but instead find that it is not there.…

Every year we celebrate Veterans Day on November 11th. Veterans Day is a day where we honor the men and women, dead or alive who served in the military. There are four different branches of the military; Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marines, and each branch plays a unique role in our country. When I discovered the benefits of the military, like free college after 36 months, or amazing Medicare, I thought, “I should join the military!” When I hear the word military, the first thing that comes to my mind is “justice”.…

Remember Think of it this way; if you were going to fight in the war, leaving your mom and dad in the safety of their home, then you end up standing in the middle of the battlefield. Turning into one of the many dead bodies that are all over the place. Your life flashes before your eyes as you see a fast, terrifying bullet coming right at you, then time stops. And you’re dead as well. Only a day or two passes before your parents get the news that their son/daughter will not be coming home.…

At times these different situations and stressors can be positive or negative (Lester & Flake, 2013). However, either with either type of stressors families can show both strengthens and weaknesses. The army is important to me it gives me a sense of family and make me feel like in a part of the team. I don’t mind the pay in the army it gives me a sense of independence and makes me feel like I can spend on what I want and what I need to use to get through until the next check. The army has also has it good and bad experiences like deployment. Deployment can be only on how the person can make it like for example myself I made it hard on myself and the people I worked with because of how I lied and hindered the mission when we were being replaced. The other side was it was a good experience to see how life was in deployed environment like Afghanistan, experience some places on the road to and from Afghanistan like the food, people and the views.…
