Symbols could be a person, place, or thing that can have different representation and meanings depending on how it is referred to. In the The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, contains vast amounts of symbols that when first read can be taken in the literal sense but have different meanings that Fitzgerald wants to get across. Important symbols in the novel that play an important part to the characters are the green light that Gatsby sees and Doctor T. J. Eckleburg’s eyes.

The play begins with the main antagonist, Iago, who exhibits signs of jealousy towards Cassio after his promotion to lieutenant over him. Iago decides to ruin Othello, who promoted Cassio, by manipulating him into believing his wife is having an affair with Cassio. This leads Othello to murder his wife out of anger and jealousy.
