This theory could save many lives, physically and emotionally. It will be very exciting to see what the future holds for diabetes (Bostock-Cox, 2015). Type 2 diabetes can be prevented, but if a patient is diagnosed with T2D, there is a way to make things easier on their body- a healthy lifestyle.
Type 2 diabetes is usually triggered as a result of poor diet, lack of exercise and, in over “80% of cases, excessive weight gain” (Bussell, 2014). Therefore, it makes sense that treatment for T2D, especially in the beginning stages, includes “monitoring patients’ diet and lifestyle.” (Bussell, 2014) When a diabetic monitors their diet and they get plenty of exercise, then they can possibly lower their dosage of medication, and have little to no symptoms of diabetes. It is important to educate yourself about this disease. “People with diabetes should receive education on appropriate testing of blood sugars, and suitable times and frequency for blood sugar monitoring to ensure that their blood sugars remain within the recommended levels” (Bussell, 2014). Weight loss is a big factor in decreasing the symptoms of type 2 diabetes.
Taking steps to lose weight is a great step a patient can take to “increase insulin sensitivity”. Weight loss can also help and improve glycemic control as well. If a diabetic is able to lose 5-10% of their body weight, they could lower their overall blood sugar levels, reduce blood pressure, improver cholesterol levels, and decrease the stress put on a…
