Sociology Makes the World Go Around In college you’re forced to make many scary, life altering decisions very quickly. You are expected to choose a major in order to get a degree. The major you choose sets the path for the rest of your academic life and affects your career options in the future. This can be a very stressful time in any college students life, this is why it’s important to choose a major that opens up many different career paths. Amongst the many majors to choose from, sociology provides an individual with the most opportunities to pursue a career. Sociology is the study of how people interact in groups in society. Sociological reasoning pre-dates the foundation of the discipline. Social analysis has origins in the common stock of Western knowledge and philosophy. It has been carried out from as far back as the time of ancient Greek philosopher Plato. The origin of the survey, i.e., the collection of information from a sample of individuals, can be traced back to at least the Domesday Book in1086, while ancient philosophers such as Confucius wrote of the importance of social roles. There is also evidence of sociology in medical Arab writings, French philosophy teachings from the 19th century, and at the turn of the 20th century.
