But it turned into a big thing where all of our other friends were coming to. My old friend decided a couple of days before Halloween that he wasn't going to go because he heard about our plans. He wasn't even invited but he decided to tell me that and I said ok. The day of Halloween Peter, me, and all the other people sitting on Peter's trampoline, get a call. Little did I know it was my old friend, I pick it up and he is asking if he can come because he has nothing else to do. I kind of took this offensive because he said it like we were his second choice but then I was thinking i'm not going to be mean and say no. He came and he acted like a jerk just as I thought, not only that but the other people who were there turned to him and thought he was the boss of us. He would tell us what to do and I didn't listen, not only because we were at someone else's house, but because he's not the boss of anyone but himself. Everyone followed him but I didn't, and you know who else didn't, Peter. Peter and I did our own thing while they thought they were in control and thought they were really cool.

This is why I Have respect for Peter. He has been there for me when others haven't and when I need a friend. When ever my old friend bothered me, Peter was there and he would help me deal with it. I think if I didn't know Peter I wouldn't be the same because I would have less friends and I wouldn't have anyone

While there have been many books that have made a lasting impression on me, In Search of Respect: Selling Crack in El Barrio, an ethnography read in my Cultural Anthropology class, fall of my sophomore year is still one that stands out to me. This was the first ethnography that I have ever read, causing me to be fascinated with the study being done. Reading about Philippe Bourgois’s experience of living in Harlem during the crack epidemic, made me realize the extreme negative effects that unemployment and poverty can have on a population. It was eye opening to learn why these individuals, who are looked at as cold hard criminals, were pushed to do the things that they did to support themselves and their families. This ethnography touched upon…
