I became quite skilled in running a hydraulic chute, giving vaccinations, branding, ear-tagging, and how to position myself to get animals to move in the right direction. I have also learned a lot working with a cattle rancher. I have learned things such as feeding rations, determining sickness, and how the beef industry works. I have also learned how to contain the wild creatures, fix windmills to bring them water, and the best ways to transport them. I would not have learned all of this working with my dad. It is just not the same situation. Working cattle at the veterinary clinic I almost always have pipe corrals to work in while in the pasture you are working in the open range. It is a completely different world and you have to act differently. These lessons are just as crucial to my success. If not for my career, I would be lost when I get out on my own.
I am better than my peers in most aspects with the beef industry but I still have a lot to learn. I am very proud of my skills. I am even confident in my knowledge that I would be comfortable being out on my own. Not many adolescents are prepared for the real world like I am. I thank the good Lord for all the lessons that I have learned and for giving me a passion that I can pursue. It is the love for what I do that has made me so
