What Does Race Car Mean To You Essay

As a child, I spent the majority of my time in the racecar shop with my grandfather or as I like to call him “Papa”. I was luckier than most kids because my grandparents lived just next door. I never had to wait for my parents to drive me to their house; I just simply had to run across the yard. I spent hours with Papa in his race-car shop. The time I have spent with him will forever remain with me. I have continued to learn more while sitting inside there than any other place. From teaching me how to work on cars to life lessons, my Papa has shared his knowledge, and I will always value the lessons and him. From the time I was born to this very day, my Papa’s racecar shop is without a doubt the place that means the most to me. The shop was built from the ground up by the man who taught me more than any other person ever has. His shop, strong and distinct, represents his love of cars, engines, and craftsmanship. Papa has always enjoyed working on anything with a motor that had potential to go fast, and is known for building some of the fastest engines around. However, it’s different than any other shop; it is the place in which he and I have bonded so much over the years. I remember all the afternoons he picked me up from school in his old, blue Dodge pickup truck and we would go straight to the shop and spend all evening laboring on whatever the latest project happened to be. Over the years, as I’ve gotten older, I have graduated from just standing by his side handing him whatever Craftsman tool he happened to need, to getting my own tasks to do on the cars.
