A lie is like an eclipse covering the sun. The lie affects everything that it touches; it can cause crops to die from not sunlight, like people can die without truth. However the truth will eventually come out, and the crops will right themselves, but people cannot. Sometimes a bad truth is better than a good lie. Like the sun behind the moon the truth will eventually come out for all to see, and it is better to come out when it is discovered rather than someone having to pry to get it out.…

Humans lie all the time without a second thought. People lie to evade consequences and extended explanations; in other words, lying generates a smoother way forward because it lacks both confrontation and shame. Stephanie Ericsson, in her essay, The Ways We Lie, argues “When someone lies, someone loses”(1) through various examples and situations. In contrast, both Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter and John Steinbeck’s East of Eden provide numerous examples that dispute her claim.…

Richard Rodriguez, in the chapter in which the quote can be found, titled "Aria", writes repeatedly about the importance of intimacy with public and private language. Rodriguez mentions that intimacy can only be achieved in his life through the one language that he feels as if was a sort of secret one, Spanish. In my opinion, this quote bounces off a highly profound meaning. The reason why I say this is because I find it majorly interesting, the way that Richard Rodriguez sees the opinion of other people about mixing public life with private language; in other words using the language that transmits intimacy in a public place surrounded by people who speak other language that does not transmit anything close to intimacy. I find myself to be…

    It Is Ok To Lie

It is ok to lie to someone, if the intention of the lie is to protect that person. I believe this statement can be true in most cases, unless the person who’s getting helped doesn’t want their helper to deal with a big punishment. Say a person makes a mistake at their job, and their friend lies to cover for them. The person would be okay if their if their friend managed to keep their job, but would feel guilty if their friend was fired. Thus, it is sometimes better for people not to lie in some cases, for both the one who wants to help and the person who would get help.…
