What does it take to succeed in college? Many people would answer “intelligence.” They believe that if you are intelligent enough, you will succeed in college, and if you are not intelligent enough, you will fail. Actually, the quality called “intelligence” rarely is a major fact in college success. Much more important are study skills: how you study, what you do in and out of the classroom, and how you manage your time. The good news is that good study skills are something that anybody can learn. Because of this, virtually anybody can succeed in college, with enough hard work, effective time-management, and proper study habits. “Challenges are what make life interesting and overcoming them is what makes life meaningful”. A quote by Joshua J. Marine, “The strive to succeed is the mindset of every individual, but success is only a true test of character and only the strong will ultimately come out on top. With great success comes great failure, we must fail to succeed, we must have the motivation to continue. College is a unique experience relatively few individuals get to experience this opportunity. There is probably no period in your life where you have more choices, more free time, and as wide a range of activities. With this period of time also comes a high level of responsibility. Three steps to help you succeed in college are: managing your time and resources effectively, taking initiative, and making responsible choices with alcohol.
