The question, "what does it mean to be human?" is a question that I don't know how to answer clearly.
In my opinion, there's no exact definition of "what does it mean to be human." The real question is, do we have humans have similar characteristics? Individuality is the quality of a particular person that distinguishes them from others. Often times in the world, we are forced to give up our individuality and conform with others. In Logan Fey’s article, The Sociology of Leopard Man, he claims that to be a human is to be an individual human, with individual tastes, talents, morals, etc. I agree with Fey, that being human is to be an individual, but some of our traits have been influenced by other people, or sometimes we are forced to give up our individuality for certain things, but we all must find our own way of living as ourselves content in society. Being an individual human means that one develops their own personality, attributes, tastes, goals, talents, and morals.…

This essentially means that to be human, one must do more than just survive, and by doing the bare minimum human beings are no better than animals. No, to be human in their eyes means to have a connection to creativity and passion, to express oneself in a way that is intellectually or creatively stimulating to themselves and others. Over time I became more open and realized many interesting things that truly depict us as humans. A human is unique; there is no one who shares the same characteristics as the other. We are special; we have unique tastes, likes, and hobbies. In the article, “What is Man” the author expresses that “People are extraordinarily different in different places, and possible just because of the places,” (Skinner pg. 185). Skinners perception dealt with the idea that human diversity is morphed due to how we interact with the environment; the environment takes over the function of acting independent, in the sense that humans are capable of adapting to change due to natural selection.…

In the chapter, “What Does It Mean to Be Human,” from the book, Ten Questions, Joel Charon describes the characteristics that define human beings and make them different from other species. Namely, human beings are defined by our social and cultural nature. (32) According to Charon, being social is essential to our survival because our identity is dependent on how we socialize with others. Charon defines socialization as the “the process by which the various representatives of societyㄧparents, teachers, political leaders, religious leaders, the news mediaㄧteach people the ways of society and, in so doing form their basics qualities”(34).…

In the context of a normal society, being human means being able to be normal and uphold the characteristics that are portrayed by other people in the society (Rauch, 69). However, there is a neutral definition of being human that tends to apply to all human beings regardless of their society like being intelligent, compassionate, caring. A contradiction to these characteristics makes one naturally inhuman in the eyes of people from any society. Hence, a human being can be said to be any being that that is living based on the norms and characteristics accepted under the human society. In other words, this characteristic revolves around the fact that they base their nature on what their minds create their experiences and the conscience that differentiates them from other…
