What does it mean to be an American? I don’t feel like there will ever be two people that have the same opinion or thoughts on being an American. Life, each person’s individual experiences, beliefs and ideas define what it means for them to be and American. If you’ve never live anywhere else how would you truly know what it means to be and American vs an African, European, etc. Family, education, multiple culture, and technological advancement that what America means to me. America has played a role in every event, change and belief I have experienced is America a geological location on the map, where I live, or is American land of the free and home of the brave as often referred to.

Family is a great deal of what being an American means to me. One can only imagine how low your heart sinks when you get the call from your parent and they say I’m going to have surgery. To not hear her say I have no idea how I’m going to pay for this or the doctors won’t operate till they receive payment is an indescribable relief. When there is an unexpected health event in life in America it’s relief not to have to worry about the financial responsibilities that don’t stop. While some do abuse the aids that are available to Americans I can gladly say I’ve seen when the aid has been necessary and I was glad that someone came up with the idea. I can still remember that feeling getting that call from me after saying I Love You and she was doing fine. That’s what being an American means to me.…
