How would you feel if you were in the army and your girlfriend broke up with you by a letter saying she was in love with someone else? How would you feel if your dad died while you were in the war? What if your girlfriend broke up with you for her best friend? What if you knew you still wanted to be with that girl who left you? Well in the book I read those exact thing happened. It was called Dear John and the author was Nicholas Sparks.
On page 1 &2 it stated, “ What does it mean to truly love another? There was a time in my life I thought I knew the answer: It meant that I’d care for Savannah more deeply than I cared for myself and that we would spend the rest of our lives together.”
This is a significant passage because it sets up when Savannah breaks up with him and many fights they had gotten into. Also, it shows John’s feelings for Savannah. It made me a little sad about what may happen later on in the book and made me think what could happen. Also, it is important because if that passage was not there the ending would not make sense. The whole story would be confusing because without that passage some important details could not have happened, at least without confusing the reader . All I knew was that I wanted to be in the place I was meant to be.”(pg 169). Also, with the 12 and older this is because there are some parts where they talk about Asperger’s and Autism and any younger than 12 they may not know what they are. Also, they talk about love and most younger kids do not like the idea of love. Also, there is the tiniest bit of violence so a boy would probably be
