What Does It Mean To Say Writing Is Easy

“Writing is easy. All you have to do is cross out the wrong words.”
-Mark Twain
One of America’s greatest writers, Mark Twain, once said that writing is easy, all you have to do is cross out the wrong words. This quote reflects the way that I see writing and how it relates to me as a writer. It means that writing is not the hardest thing to do, I see that the only requirement I need to make it “easy” is to revise and edit. When I do this, I learn my mistakes and I correct them. At the same time doing so, I gain more experience as a writer and that is how this quote relates to me, because the quote means that I need to edit my work and the more I edit, the more I gain knowledge in writing.

As anyone can tell, the story “Writing Is Easy!” by Steve Martin, was intended to be funny. Although, I didn’t find it funny one bit. The humor in this story was very weak and didn’t really convey a strong funny effect. It’s clear this story wasn’t written for a teenage mind like myself to find humorous.…
